Mindfulness

Trauma-informed practice that incorporates mindfulness focuses on cultivating present-moment awareness, non-judgmental acceptance, and self-compassion. It emphasizes grounding techniques, relaxation exercises, and mindful awareness of thoughts, emotions, and sensations to help cope with trauma-related symptoms and promote healing.

This specific approach can be of benefit to you as it helps develop greater resilience, regulates emotions more effectively, and reduces reactivity to trauma triggers. For someone who has a history of trauma, it assists by teaching him or her to stay present and calm during moments of distress, reducing the intensity of emotional reactions and promoting a sense of safety and stability.

Mindfulness therapy can include a number of different techniques such as deep breathing, body scanning, and guided imagery to help you connect with the present moment and cultivate self-awareness. Clients are often encouraged to practice mindfulness outside of therapy as a way to cope with stress and to help regulate emotions.

Mindfulness-based interventions – such as Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) or Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) – combine mindfulness practices with cognitive-behavioral techniques. In addition to providing guidance, support, and feedback to help you integrate mindfulness into your daily life, we will also help you also develop a greater sense of well-being and resilience in the face of trauma.
